Global Warming Affects The Ocean
Friday, June 29th, 2007 by Global WarmerScientists and researchers have begun to pay more attention to the waters of the ocean and how Global Warming effects the ocean. Ocean temperatures have been rising as far back as 1940, causing an increase in the strength of hurricanes and tsunamis.
There are many skeptics who do not agree about how Global Warming effects the ocean, but they all can agree there is an increase of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere as well as the oceans. These is also little doubt as to what has caused the increase in carbon dioxide, which is our dependency on fossil fuels.
The oceans help control the amount of carbon dioxide released in the air by absorbing it into the ocean’s salty waters. This in turn helps to control the amount of Global Warming in the earth’s atmosphere. The problem is the carbon dioxide also changes the oceanic waters, causing them to have a higher level of acid. This could possibly have an effect on any type of life which is found in the ocean.
Carbon Dioxide And How Global Warming Effects The Ocean
Carbon dioxide is a gas that helps hold in the heat which is on the earth. It is a necessary process in order to keep the earth warm enough to sustain life. Excess amounts of carbon dioxide cause increased heat. There are many elements that come into play to produce carbon dioxide. Our dependence on gasoline is a major factor in the increase of carbon dioxide. We are now producing carbon dioxide at much greater levels and there are not enough natural elements to control it.
How Global Warming effects the ocean depends on how fast we put carbon dioxide in the air. The ocean absorbs as much as a third of the carbon dioxide which we generate. There is some question how long this can continue. With more and more carbon dioxide in the air the oceans of the world will not be able to handle it.
When trying to determine how Global Warming effects the ocean you have to consider the fact that the increase of carbon dioxide in the water has increased the acidity of the water as well as the water level. You also have to consider what the acid does to oceanic plant life and marine life. Some studies show the acid reduces the plankton in the ocean which is critical to some forms of sea life. If the current trend continues there is fear that some species of marine life will become extinct. There is also speculation that the higher acidity will in some way damage other marine life and the food chain it needs to survive. Global Warming is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and dealt with now so that our children will have a safer world to raise their children in.

Global Warming Debate

The scientific community on one side of the aisle warns of the consequences of continuing with policies and practices that offer little or no change in behavior, while the other side claims it is a dire prediction offered by Chicken Little and the sky is not really falling.
Environmentalists and many in the scientific community care championing the need for how industrialized nations reduce the amount of carbon dioxide being released into the Earth’s atmosphere. It is this carbon dioxide that is warming the atmosphere, according to those on the environment side of the Global Warming debate, while three of the top industrial countries have not signed on to the theory. The United States, China and India continue to resist the need for more reductions, at an unknown financial cost, which they claim cannot be proven to end the climate change.
Adding to the debate are charges of flawed scientific statements that those in disagreement are purposely exaggerated to push the agenda of certain environmental groups. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has been supporting the so-called “butterfly effect” to show the need for drastic reductions in carbon dioxide emissions, while scientists and climatologists counter claim that the size of the theoretical effect on globe’s environment is too small to be included in the Global Warming debate.
Flying Butterfly Alters Course Of Tornado
By citing the “butterfly effect” some scientists theorize that the beating wings of a butterfly in Asia could alter the course and strength of a tornado in Kansas, a claim many climatologists scoff at, pointing out the proponents in the Global Warming debate use this as a scare tactic. Their claim is that the sheer size of the Earth’s atmosphere and the strength needed to manipulate any condition is far beyond the breeze created by butterfly wings.
Others in the Global Warming debate point out that predictors of world-ending results of continuing to ignore Global Warming are having the opposite effect of bringing attention to the Global Warming debate, in that some see them as alarmists, presenting only the data to support their opinion and not looking at any opposing view.
On the other hand, those supporting the need to reduce Global Warming say the industries do not accept their information in the Global Warming debate due to the cost of removing carbon dioxide emissions from factories and most other sources. They claim industrialized nations are more interested in saving money than saving the planet.

These graphs come from a variety of resources but all tend to show the same data. The difficulty with these graphs is that most average people do not understand the graphs and rely on their interpretation of the scientists who present them. Should the common man fear the Global Warming issue or is it an unfounded crisis that has become a worldwide political issue? For people to make a decision they need to become informed and able to interpret all the data that is presented.

There are several ways to become informed and be able to interpret graphs of Global Warming. The first thing a person needs to do is to look for educational materials on the subject. It is important to try and find impartial view points for the best education. Only time will tell how factual the worry over Global Warming is and what the full impact will be. Despite a persons convictions on the impact of Global Warming graphs it is important for every individual to do their part to take care of the earth and the natural resources available. Wasting the planet will only lead to further consequences in the future whether it is Global Warming or some other crisis. The earth is a priceless gift from the creator and people have a responsibility to care for it.
